BERGAMOT, Citrus bergamia

Bergamot is a small citrus fruit with a shape slightly similar to that of a pear. Sour taste and aromatic skin.

The production of this species is limited to the coastal region of the province of Regio de Calabria, in Italy, in such a way that it is a symbol of the entire province. Most bergamot comes from a small area where the temperature is optimal for this species. It is also grown in Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and the US state of Georgia, as well as in the Mersin region of Turkey, where it is typical to find a dessert made with this fruit.
